CAIRO – 15 November 2022: Commenting on President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's call to end the Russia-Ukraine War for its negative impact on developing nations, Regional Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State Samuel Warberg said that the matter is at the hands of the Russian president as the decision of withdrawing Russian troops from Ukraine is his.

"On the side of the United States, we hope that President Putin ends this war. We can see its impact on developing states, especially those relying on Ukrainian and Russian wheat and food products," the U.S. official added.

Warberg further clarified that he knows of no diplomatic communication between the United States and Russia, pointing out that the rejection of all diplomatic efforts come from the part of the Russian president.

The U.S. Department of State's regional spokesperson's statements were made at a phone-in Monday with Egyptian TV Presenter Sayed Ali. He said that COP 27 presided by Egypt is possibly the most important conference in the history of humanity.

That is because the ongoing summit is about empowerment and not just pledges like previous ones, Warberg noted lauding Egypt for the steps it had taken to achieve climate mitigation and adaptation.
