CAIRO – 7 November 2022: UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hailed Egypt as one of Britain’s most international partners in the Middle East in a meeting on Monday with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

Sunak praised Egypt’s regional role as a main pillar of security and stability of the region during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November.

Sisi welcomed Sunak’s visit to Egypt, which is his first foreign visit, congratulating him again for assuming his role as prime minister.

Egypt looks forward to enhancing bilateral cooperation with the UK in the coming period and fostering political coordination on various issues of mutual interest, the president stressed.

Sunak, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Egypt's successful and distinguished organization of the global climate summit, hailing the close ties between both countries.

The British premier also praised the unprecedented momentum that Egyptian-British relations have gained over the past years, especially at the level of economic and commercial relations.

The meeting addressed the two countries' joint efforts to back and foster climate action at the regional and international levels.

Sisi and Sunak also touched on ways and prospects to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation at various levels and take advantage of the capabilities available of both sides in this regard.

Both sides agreed on continuing strengthening mutual and constructive dialogue between Egypt and Britain in the coming period, the spokesman noted.

Late last month, Sisi congratulated Sunak on winning the UK Conservative Party’s elections and assuming his post as the country’s new prime minister.

Sisi, in his congratulations message, said he looks forward to cooperating with Sunak to boost the bilateral ties between the two countries in a way that serves their peoples' interests and support global stability, security and peace.
