In statements to MENA, the ambassador said that Macron will arrive in Egypt on Monday and is keen to participate in the global event.

A substantial French delegation will attend COP27, Baréty said, noting that Paris is pleased with Egypt’s chairmanship and hosting of the conference.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of this year’s edition of the global climate conference, especially amid the recent consequences of climate change experienced by the world, including Europe.

France was affected by high temperatures, lack of rain and low water levels in rivers, while Pakistan was hit by devastating floods due to climate change, the ambassador noted.

He added that in Africa, Sudan - for example - was also affected due to the same reason.

The ambassador further noted that COP27 is meant to implement pledges made in previous editions.
