CAIRO - 25 October 2022: Health facilities increased by 11% nationwide during the period from 2009 to 2019, said Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

The minister's remarks came on Monday during a session titled "A roadmap to increasing the private sector's participation in health domains" as part of the second day activities of the Economic Conference – Egypt 2022.

He pointed out that the number of beds in private hospitals went up by 68%, with the private sector reportedly owning 28% of the total number of hospital beds in the country in 2019.

During the session, he reviewed the ministry's health plan in Egypt, noting that the number of hospitals hit 2,700 nationwide with 15,356 beds of intensive care, 3,452 operation rooms, 5,986 nurseries and 120,606 doctors who are assisted by a good number of nursing staff to provide medical services for all people.

The minister also shed light on health partnerships with the private sector to provide better medical services.

He said that the health sector in Egypt needs to provide 4,000 beds every year until 2030, at an estimated cost of 40-60 billion pounds annually to meet the needs of the growing population.
