CAIRO – 21 October2022: Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg called for strengthening international cooperation to counter climate change.

On Friday, the top Austrian diplomat warned of the destructive impact of global warming and the associated rise in sea levels on several world countries, particularly on island states.

Schellenberg's remarks came as Egypt is set to host the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November.

He underlined that Austria supports the global measures to enhance energy efficiency as part of the European Union's development cooperation.

Schallenberg noted that his country outlined its climate goals at high levels, seeking to become climate neutral by 2040, ten years ahead of the EU's stated goal.
