CAIRO – 6 October 2022: Cairo Metro’s third line received passengers on Wednesday for the pilot operation of the first part of its phase three, which runs across four kilometers in the Egyptian capital.

The 3A part consists of four underground stations, namely Gamal Abdel Nasser, Maspero, Safaa Hegazy, and Kit Kat.

Passengers will be allowed to take the metro in these stations for a one-month pilot operation, three months after operating this part without passengers, the Transport Ministry said in a statement.

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir, French Ambassador to Cairo Marc Barety, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, and officials of the National Authority for Tunnels witnesses the launch of the pilot operation.

The new part, 3A, will be officially inaugurated during the activities of the Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh city.

In a speech during the launch of the pilot operation, Wazir thanked the state of France, the French government and French companies for the fruitful cooperation in implementing metro projects.

He also thanked the EU and its member states for the positive cooperation in various fields of transport in Egypt.

Wazir stressed that the operation of these stations today comes in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to serve the people of the areas through which the project passes.
