Shoukry before UNGA: Egypt seeks stable world without tensions

CAIRO - 25 September 2022: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Saturday Egypt seeks a stable world far away from tensions.

Delivering a speech before the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Shoukry called for respecting the UN system and reforming it seriously, objectively, and fairly to enable the UN to be more responsive to all challenges.

Shoukry asserted that Egypt adheres to the African stance toward reforming the Security Council, according to the Sirte Declaration

The foreign minister pointed out that the Russian-Ukrainian war exacerbated the economic crisis from which the world suffers since the coronavirus pandemic, adding that developing countries face increasing burdens, especially related to the sovereign debt crisis.

He affirmed the necessity that the developed countries should engage in launching a global initiative between the creditor and debtor countries that aims to exchange debts and transfer the bulk of it to joint investment projects to create more jobs and achieve positive economic growth.

Egypt is ready for cooperating with the international community to establish a global center for storing and trading grains as a part of its contribution to maintaining global food security.
