Egypt combats climate change with major projects like 'Benban solar park'

CAIRO - 23 September 2022: Egypt has devoted great efforts to setting plans and agendas to combat the negative impacts of the climate change nation wide, through different projects. 
 
Atop of these projects is the Benban solar energy park, which is considered the largest solar project in Africa, with the total production capacity of the project might reach 2,000 megawatts.
 
The $3.5 billion project, located in Aswan’s village of Benban, has a total capacity of 1.8 gigawatts. 
 
Dr. Karim Suleiman, a professor of environmental sciences, said that the state began to confront climate changes with the Benban solar energy project, projects for the use of wind energy, electricity connection projects, the settlement of the idea of ​​agricultural greenhouses, and the cultivation of desert areas.
 
Dr. Karim Suleiman stressed, in TV statements, the importance of the environmental laws of recycling and the green economy, through which the concept of the green economy began to appear, and the “Be Prepared for Green” initiative, and preserve your environment, highlight the awareness and high degree of knowledge of the Egyptian society on topics like green economy, green environment and recycling.
 
He further explained that "fighting what harms the surrounding environment is not a luxury, and this helped us to raise citizens' awareness, stressing that there are competitions for climate change and recycling in universities in which many students participate.
