Presidential Pardon Committee announces release of 28 prisoners

CAIRO – 20 Sept 2022:  The Presidential Pardon Committee announced that around 28 prisoners are being released after finalizing the necessary legal procedures.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the committee said it continues coordination with all state bodies to free new batches of inmates in the next phase, extending thanks to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his ongoing support.

Member of Egypt’s Presidential Pardon Committee Mohamed Abdel Aziz thanked President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Sunday for supporting and encouraging the efforts done by the committee to release prisoners.

“Everything we do comes as a result of President Sisi continuous support and facilitation of the work of the pardon committee since its activation.” Presidential Pardon Committee member said in televised statements.

Abdel Aziz added that the Presidential Pardon Committee receives all requests from the families of the detainees, from the committee’s website, as well as through the Human Rights Council, indicating: “I reassure the families of the imprisoned that all requests they submit regarding their relatives are received and that we will not stop trying our best efforts to continue releasing more batches of the prisoners in the coming period.”

The presidential committee overseeing the file of pardoned inmates is working to reintegrate released prisoners into society by creating jobs for them.

Measures are taken for some of the pardoned inmates to restore their previous jobs, the committee said Monday.

It added that it is coordinating with bodies concerned to solve some procedural matters regarding travel bans and sequestration of funds.
