CAIRO - 14 September 2022: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s Wednesday visit to Qatar marks a seemingly ambitious future of cooperation between the two states after years of stagnation.

“I am pleased with the visit of my brother President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Doha, which has strengthened the Qatari-Egyptian relations and allowed us to discuss means to achieve the aspirations of our two brotherly nations in enhancing these ties in service of the causes of our Arab and Islamic countries, as well as supporting security, peace and stability in our region,” the Emir tweeted on Wednesday.

Sisi’s visit comes after Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Cairo in June.

After an official reception, the Emir said he appreciates Egypt’s role in supporting the security of the Gulf and the region in general.

They also discussed means to broaden cooperation at every level, namely politics, security, trade, and economy.

While Qatar expressed deep interest in investing in Egypt, the latter showed openness to Qatari business in the country, according to Wednesday statements by the Egyptian presidential spokesperson.

Three memoranda of understanding have been signed by Egypt and Qatar in a high-profile visit by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Doha.

A memorandum of understanding on port cooperation was signed by the two states on Wednesday.

Another was signed by the Egyptian Sovereign Fund and the Qatari Sovereign Authority.

And the third was signed by the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Qatari Ministry of Social Development.

Sisi also met with representatives of the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) in his residence in the capital of Doha.

The meeting was also attended by Qatari Trade and Industry Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani and QBA's Board Chairman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Director of Egypt's General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel, Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Saeed and Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tarek el-Mulla were also present.

During the meeting, Sisi said the meeting embodies outstanding brotherly and cooperative spirit between Egypt and Qatar, according to Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi.

Egypt is keen on enhancing economic and trade ties with the Qatari business community and Qatari companies along with stimulating joint investments supporting economic development in the two countries, Sisi added.

For their part, the Qatari businessmen expressed their honor to meet with Sisi, saying this meeting represents a perfect opportunity to enhance joint cooperation.

They also said they are looking forward to expanding aspects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in light of the "promising investment opportunities" in Egypt, namely renewable energy, tourism, construction, real estate development, agriculture, industry, and healthcare.
