CAIRO - 5 September 2022: “The Egyptian Government recognizes the huge responsibility of organizing a successful [the 2022 UN climate conference (COP27)] Conference,” said Dr. Samir Tantawy, a climate change expert at the United Nations Development Program.

“The summit needs to demonstrate the damage caused by the climate crisis, particularly in developing countries. For example, the Aswan Governorate, in southern Egypt, has experienced storms, snow and heavy rain for the first time. Developing countries need to be properly compensated,” he added.

The United Nations said in a press release on Monday that Regional authorities in Egypt are ramping up initiatives designed to improve the country’s environmental credentials, and speed up its transition to a low carbon economy.”

The Egyptian authorities are working around the clock to host, on behalf of the African continent, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2022 (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh on November 6-18, 2022.

This year's international gathering aims to establish legally binding commitments for developed countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Egypt focuses on urgent and priority issues in the African continent, in particular, and in developing countries in general, such as adaptation and climate finance.
