CAIRO – 5 September 2022: Khalida Bouzar, assistant secretary-general and director of the UN Development Programme Regional Bureau for Arab States said the UNDP is keen to provide all forms of support to Egypt in implementing the National Strategy for Climate Change during the coming period.

Meeting with Bouzar on Monday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry praised the UNDP’s role in supporting the required funding to support Egypt’s presidency of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).

Shoukry, president-designate of COP27, affirmed to Bouzar that Egypt will focus during the conference on the growing challenges that the African and developing countries face due to the current global situation and amid rise in food and energy price that undermines the efforts of those countries to achieve sustainable development goals.

For her part, Bouzar praised the success achieved by the Egyptian economy over the past years, which she hopes will be reflected in the World Human Development Report to be issued soon.

In May, the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and the United Nations’ office in Egypt established a roadmap for the Strategic Partnership Framework from 2023 to 2027.

The roadmap aims to support the Egyptian government’s priorities in achieving economic and social development, which is in line with the 2030 SDGs.

The roadmap aims to organize the stages of preparing the new framework for the strategic partnership in a practical and elaborate manner, and provides a comprehensive vision of the upcoming stages.

Egypt is preparing to host UN COP27 next November and has been keen to build on the success of Glasgow summit (COP26) and turn climate pledges into actions.

Egypt has also vowed to speak for the African aspirations regarding climate change.
