President Sisi welcomes efforts to achieve calm in Iraq

CAIRO – 30 August 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday welcomed efforts exerted by different Iraqi parties to achieve calm in Iraq.

"I appreciate the Iraqi parties' sincere efforts and calls for calm from various political forces in the country to cease the escalation and acts of violence, which led to the rapid containment of the recent crisis in Iraq", Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady quoted Sisi as saying.

The president also voiced hope for capitalizing on such efforts to push forward an inclusive dialogue for preserving Iraq's safety and territorial integrity, the spokesman added on his Facebook page.

On Monday, Sisi made a phone call with Iraqi counterpart Barham Salih, following the escalations among the conflicting parties in Iraq and led to inciting violence and killing 12 people of protester and injuring 270 others.

Sisi expressed Egypt's full support for Iraq, stressing the need to adhere dialogue and understanding to raise Iraq's national interest above any consideration.

President Sisi affirmed Egypt's readiness alongside the Arab countries to contribute to any joint effort to end any escalation and confrontations.

President Barham Salih expressed his sincere appreciation to the President for Egypt's continued support for Iraq, praising the distinguished relations between the two sides and the historical ties that unite the two countries and peoples.

Also, President Sisi spoke over the phone with Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
