Egypt's Irrigation minister attends World Water Week in Stockholm

CAIRO - 30 August 2022: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam attended on Tuesday the proceedings of the World Water Week which addresses the global water issues and their relation to achieving sustainable development.

Egypt's Ambassador in Sweden Ahmed Adel welcomed the minister upon his arrival.

In statements following his arrival, Sweilam said his participation in this important event comes upon invitation from the Swedish side and its keenness on contacting with the various world countries as regards the water issues and means of addressing challenges facing the water sector.

During his stay in Stockholm, the minister is scheduled to meet with a number of ministers, top officials concerned with the water file along with regional and international organizations working on water-related issues.

Swilam met Ricardo Mina, Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR); Where they discussed the arrangements between the Egyptian government and the United Nations regarding the COP27 climate summit. Preparations are now underway for intensive international events linking water issues and climate change.

The Minister of Irrigation praised the fruitful cooperation with the UNDRR, which is participating in the organization of the water pavilion at the Climate Summit, calling on representatives of the organization to participate in the "Fifth Cairo Water Week" to present the organization's efforts in the field of early warning systems related to severe weather events.

Swilam referred to the ministry's efforts in the field of protection from the dangers of floods in Egypt, which aim to protect citizens and protect facilities and infrastructure.
