CAIRO – 25 August 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Minister and President-Designate of the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27) Sameh Shoukry highlighted the importance of promoting global collective action to put into effect all agreements related to averting the planet's climate crisis.

Shoukry made the remarks in a recorded speech before the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) that opened in Thailand Thursday to drum up financial support for boosting climate investments and realizing the sustainable development goals.

Shoukry highlighted the importance of cooperation among the United Nations (UN) five regional committees and the Egyptian presidency of the COP27 pertaining to reducing carbon emissions and supporting finance tools of budgets allocated by concerned parties and the private sector on the national level with the aim of serving all climate issues.

He also reviewed Egypt's preparations for COP27 to garner financial support to climate action as well as consolidate climate steadfastness and adaptation across the globe.

Egypt is preparing to host COP27 next November and has been keen to build on the success of Glasgow summit (COP26) and turn climate pledges into actions.

In July, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a speech at the high-level session of the Berlin-hosted Petersburg Climate Dialogue, where he affirmed that Egypt will spare no effort to make the COP27 a success.

Sisi said that recent climate change reports indicate that exerted efforts are still insufficient, “and that we must save the earth for future generations.” Sisi also noted that the world needs a fair transition to green and renewable energy.

“We must think about the losses incurred by developing countries, especially small countries in African countries. It is important that we think about doing more in terms of financing, as richer countries should play a bigger role regarding Climate change” Sisi said.

MENA contributed to the reporting.
