More than 900 camels ready to compete in Alamein Camel Race Tuesday

CAIRO - 22 August 2022: Around a thousand camel owners from all governorates of Egypt are preparing for the camel race activities that is to kickstart in the new city of El Alamein Tuesday. 
 
In the race, more than 900 camels will compete in 32 rounds, in two morning and evening periods.
 
Sheikh Salama Abu El-Nada, head of the Competitions Committee in the Egyptian Federation and one of the senior camel owners, said that all the camels are in a state of readiness to start the races, pointing out that more than a thousand camel owners from different Egyptian tribes from all governorates of Egypt attended the camel racing track in El Alamein Square to participate in the race.
 
He added that the 900 camels that will participate in the races have been registered to compete for the first places and get prizes offered by the UAE Camel Federation.
 
Ahead of the race activities, there were decoration activties at the venue with flags and banners welcoming the guests, and beautifying the race entrances.
 
Eid Hamdan, head of the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation, announced that it was decided to start the camel racing activities Tuesday under the auspices and support of the UAE Camel Racing Federation.
 
He explained that the race is the strongest of its kind, as 900 camels from all governorates of Egypt participate in the competition for the first runs, and it is scheduled to be distributed over 32 rounds in two morning shifts, in which 20 runs and evening runs, and 12 races will start.
 
He added that the race was prepared for this week, as the camels were brought from the Sinai, Matrouh, Upper Egypt, Canal and New Valley governorates.
 
He added that the El Alamein camel field is one of the most important camel racing fields in Egypt, and the distance of the race track is 5 kilometers with equipped gates, and new construction has been added to it, including tracks, roads, a main cabin, viewing platform and service areas.
 
He explained that the scheduled race is the fourth officially on the grounds of El Alamein Square, under the auspices of the UAE Camel Federation since the start of the races in El Alamein a year ago.
