Egypt's Health Ministry clarifies goals of programs to combat misuse of antibiotics

CAIRO - 9 August 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population clarified in a statement the goals of the national programs to combat the misuse of antibiotics. 
 
stressed that the national program to combat antibiotic-resistant microbes aims to raise the efficiency of manpower by: providing administrative support, defining responsibilities, raising the efficiency of pharmacists, promoting safe clinical practice, and by making optimal use of antibiotics and reducing their consumption, maximizing positive results, and providing opportunities Education and training, within the framework of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
 
The Ministry of Health and Population indicated that the second phase of the national program to combat antibiotic-resistant microbes aims to expand the number of public, central, and specialized hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health and its various bodies at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
 
The ministry further explained the importance of continuous coordination between all sectors of the ministry to provide the required supplies at hospitals.
 
It also aims to strengthen the system for monitoring infection with antibiotic-resistant microbes, through the preparation of microbiological laboratories and the development of the digitization system, as well as the preparation of reports on bacterial infection treatment programs, which contributes to reducing the impact of antimicrobial resistance, according to the statement.
