CAIRO - 27 July 2022: The Health Ministry said no monkeypox cases have been detected in Egypt so far.

In a statement the ministry said the disease is not expected to spread highly in the Middle East countries.

This came after the monkeypox outbreak in various parts of the world and the declaration of a state of emergency by the World Health Organization.

The ministry had raised state of alert on all terminals to ensure early detection of any monkeypox case to avoid its spread in Egypt.

The quarantine authorities at Cairo International Airport announced taking new intensive precautionary measures to limit the spread of monkeypox after the World Health Organization declared a state of emergency due to the increase in infections worldwide.

There will be several exceptional measures taken by Egyptian airports to reduce any possibility of the spread of epidemic diseases.

Quarantine sources at the airport confirmed that the medical authorities at the airport, headed by Dr. Hazem Hussein, the Director of the Quarantine Department, have taken several strict measures towards travelers, especially those coming from countries where the disease is prevalent, according to the new instructions issued by the Ministry of Health.

According to the sources, it is necessary to take precautionary measures towards travelers, sign a medical examination on them and measure temperatures, and if any suspected case appears, it will be isolated at the airport, provided that it is transferred to the nearest fever hospital, to perform the necessary medical examinations to confirm whether or not the disease is infected.
