Gameela Ismail wins Dostour election

CAIRO - 24 July 2022: Renowned journalist Khaled Dawood resigned from al-Dostour party after losing the lead to veteran politician and former TV host Gameela Ismail.

Dawood resigns after 10 years in the party, which is the age of the party. This is the fourth time elections have been held in Dostour, which was founded by former interim Vice President Mohamed al-Baradei in 2012.

The party adopts center left politics, and Ismail, 56, was one of the most prominent figures who called for the 2011 revolution against late President Hosni Mubarak. She has been an advocate for women’s rights and freedom of expression for many years and has largely remained a respected personality during the rough political scene between 2011 and 2013, where many politicians drastically changed their views.
