CAIRO – 10 July 2022: Ambassador to Valletta Khaled Anis met this week with Maltese Minister of Home Affairs, Security, Reform, and Equality Byron Camilleri, requesting the creation of legal migration channels for Egyptians.

On his side, the minister said that his country looks for forwards to bringing in Egyptian skilled labor, hailing Egyptian expats in Malta for their commitment and hard work.

The ambassador also asked for expanding cooperation in the fields of firefighting and civil protection. In turn, Minister Camilleri expressed his country's readiness to deliver training for Egyptian workers in the sector, saying he aspired to visit Cairo soon to further examine potential areas of collaboration.

The Egyptian ambassador and the Maltese minister similarly held consultations on regional issues of mutual interest. They equally discussed the measures taken to bolster bilateral ties on the political, economic, trade, and investment levels, which were made possible through exchanging visits among the officials of both states.

Ambassador Anis had held in May an online meeting with the executive manager of the Air Malta and head of board of directors of Air Cairo to discuss resuming direct flights between Egypt and Malta to enhance trade and tourism exchange.

In a post on its official Facebook page, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said that the two sides had welcomed the recent decree issued by Malta to cancel the public health lists to travel to Malta.

That would enable Egyptian and Maltese citizens to travel to both countries, the statement further said.
