CAIRO – 6 July 2022: The divorce rates in Egypt has increased by about 32,000 during the year 2021, compared to 2020, said Dr. Hussein Abdel Aziz, advisor to the head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

He added that the divorce rates are high, but not as dangerous as people imagine, according to his statements to a TV show on DMC TV channel.

He further noted that the divorce cases that happened during the first year of marriage amounted to 25,000 cases out of 876,000 marriages.

He continued: The divorce cases related to marriage in the first year are 25,000 cases, compared to 876,000 marriages, or 2.4 percent, indicating that the rates of population increase and childbearing differ from previous years.

He pointed out that there is seasonality in births, which increases from the first of July until the first of September and October.

There is a decrease in deaths which has led to the increase in population, he added. The governorates of Upper Egypt ranked the highest in regard to the births rate, stressing that Port Said governorate is the least compared to other governorates, while Matrouh recorded high in reproductive rates.
