CAIRO – 1 July 2022: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad revealed that his country hosts dialogues between Jordan and Iran, and between Egypt and Iran, the Al Arabiya network reported on Thursday.

In an interview with Arabiya, Hussein said that his country, which mediates in a dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Iran, proposed to make Iranian-Saudi talks public.

On April 13, 2022, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley during the former’s official visit to Washington. During the meeting, Shoukry and Malley discussed the situations in the Middle East region, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Egyptian-Iranian relations stalled since 1978, when Tehran severed formal diplomatic ties with Egypt for various reasons, at the forefront of which was the Camp David agreement between Egypt and Israel. Another reason behind the damaged relations with Iran is related to Khaled El-Islamboli, the army officer who assassinated Sadat in a military parade in 1981.

The Iranian government subsequently named a street in Tehran after Islamboli. However, former President Mohamed Morsi took steps to resume the relations during his one-year tenure.
