CAIRO – 23 June 2022: The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a statement Wednesday revealing it had spent LE182 million on upgrading the weather monitoring and early warning systems to better ensure the safety of aircraft and do research on climate change.

The upgrade works included the installation of three weather radars, 30 automated weather stations, and highs-speed computer. The statement added that an applied research project has been carried out to locally design and produce a radiosounde that measures the temperature of the higher layers of the atmosphere.

The project was carried out in collaboration with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, and MSA University, having as goal reducing imports of the device.

The Economic and Social Development Plan, submitted by the Ministry of Planning to the parliament in September, indicates that EgyptAir aims for the procurement of nine planes by the end of 2023.

Eight of those will be acquired through the operating lease system, including four that will be received in 2022.

Further, there is a plan to introduce a new terminal, whose capacity is estimated to be four million passengers per annum, in Alexandria's Borg Al Arab airport.

The ministry noted that investments allocated to the civil aviation sector in FY2021/22 is LE9.3 billion.
