CAIRO – 22 June 2022: Egypt has extended condolences to the Afghan state over the deadly earthquake Paktika and Khost provinces, which have killed and injured hundreds of people.

“The Egyptian government and people express their since condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry also affirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Afghanistan in this tragic incident.

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Khost province early on Wednesday in the southeastern part of Afghanistan. According to state-run media, the quake has killed 1,000 people and injured 1,500 others.

The death toll is likely to rise during the coming period, media quoted Mawlawi Sharafuddin Muslim, the deputy minister for disaster management as saying.

The quake has also destroyed dozens of houses, according to reports.
