Street cleaners in Giza ordered to stop working under extreme temperature

CAIRO- 11 June 2022: Giza Governorate decided that all dustmen should not work in the streets during the period from noon until the sunset to avoid the extreme temperature, said Giza Governor General Ahmed Rashed in a statement on Saturday.

 

According to the decision, the cleaners would resume their work in the evening.

 

Giza Governor also called upon citizens to avoid direct exposure to sunlight from noon to 4 pm, drink fluids continuously, and be in well-ventilated places.

 

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has advised people to avoid direct sunlight as the peak of the heatwave was recorded on Saturday.

 

The EMA advised people to take many cold drinks and wear loose and light-colored clothes as well as sun protection hats.

 

The peak of the heatwave on Saturday reached highs of more than 40 degrees Celsius in the majority of areas nationwide and up to 45 degrees Celsius in southern Upper Egypt.

 

In Cairo and northern Upper Egypt, the weather reached 43 degrees Celsius.
