CAIRO – 28 May 2022: Egypt’s Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram said she and her family are “going through a severe ordeal and difficult time” as her son, Ramy, is accused of committing a murder in the United States.

In a post on her personal Facebook page, Makram asked people to pray for her and her family in such difficult time, adding that she prays for Ramy and the victims of the murder crime.

She affirmed that she strictly separated her personal life and public affairs, saying that she remains fully responsible for her duties as minister.

“Performing my duties as a minister in the Egyptian government does not conflict with me being a believing mother who bravely faces the plight of her son,” Makram said.

She stressed that the accusations Ramy is facing are still being studied by an American court and that no conclusive ruling has yet been made.

“Whatever the consequences, as a minister, I take full responsibility for my position and work responsibilities and I make a clear distinction between what is personal and what is public,” she said.

Makram urged media to verify the accuracy of the information that they publish in this regard and to take into account honesty and humanity in dealing with this ordeal.
