CAIRO – 26 May 2022: Slovenia's Ambassador to Egypt, Mateja Prevolsek, said that Slovenia is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries these days, during which excellent relations were established during this period.

She also stressed the existence of a common challenge between the two countries, which is to address environmental issues, including the elimination of plastic waste.

In a video clip published by the European Union website in Cairo on Twitter, Prevolsek added that plastic waste is a global problem, and most countries of the world have legislation to combat it, and Egypt has a waste management law.

She further added that Slovenian government has banned the sale of most single-use plastic products.

The Ambassador of Slovenia noted that COP 27, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh this year, is a “good opportunity for Africa to respond to climate change, as well as for European countries to reaffirm their goals.”

Prevolsek added that “legislation is not enough without the dedication of each of us, and we have to do something about it and stop using plastic and replace it with other materials that are not harmful to the environment.”

Prevolsek advised everyone to bring their own reusable bags when shopping for groceries, and to stop using plastic bags when working in the office.
