CAIRO – 21 May 2022: Belgium's Ambassador to Egypt, François cornet d'elzius, confirmed that the visit of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Brussels last February, where he was received by King Philippe of Belgium, reflected deep relations between both countries in many fields.

In an exclusive statement to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), the Belgian ambassador said that Egypt and Belgium have "excellent, strong and extended" relations in many fields.

The Ambassador of Belgium to Egypt praised the strong economic partnership between the two countries, as Egypt is considered “Belgium's second trading partner in the Middle East,” as well as an important partner for his country in Africa due to its distinguished geographical location. He further noted that there are many investments of Belgian companies in Egypt.

The ambassador also referred to the importance of cooperation between his country and Egypt in the cultural field, as there are several Belgian archaeological missions in Egypt.

With regard to tourism, Ambassador D'elzius explained that during the Easter holiday, Egypt was the second tourist destination for Belgian citizens outside Europe, coming after the Canary Islands, noting that Belgian tourists are interested in visiting Egypt because it combines culture and a moderate atmosphere at the same time.

On the cooperation between Egypt and the European Union after 45 years of its establishment, the Belgian ambassador praised the level of relations between the two sides, expressing his happiness for the recent celebration of Europe Week in Alexandria within the month of Europe, because “Alexandria is a symbol of the Mediterranean,” he added.
