CAIRO - 30 April 2022: Prime minister of Malta Robert Abela expressed his deep appreciation of Egypt and its role at the regional and international levels.


This came during a meeting between Egyptian Ambassador to Malta Khalid Anis and Abela, who assumed his post as Malta's prime minister on March 28.

During the meeting, Amb. Anis conveyed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's greetings to Abela on his new post, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on its official Facebook page.

The Egyptian diplomat highlighted the outcome of the first round of technical consultations on water issues between the two sides which was held in March, the ministry said.

He underscored the importance of efforts by the Egyptian embassy to intensify meetings with the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the government company "TradeMalta", the Malta Tourism Authority, and a number of businessmen and tourism companies with the aim of promoting trade exchange, investments and tourism between the two countries, the ministry noted.

For his part, the prime minister of Malta said there are great opportunities to support trade and investment relations between the two countries, in light of the good economic situation of his country and the tremendous opportunities available to attract foreign investments to Malta.

He also shed light on Egypt's hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), set for Sharm El Sheikh in November, expressing his country's keenness on participating in the conference.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments related to the Libyan crisis and Egypt's efforts in this regard. Amb. Anis cited Egypt's hosting of the Libyan Constitutional Track Committee's meeting in March, under the auspices of the United Nations.
