CAIRO - 14 April 2022: Egypt’s Qena governorate has been declared free from the Coronavirus (Covid 19) for the first time since the outbreak of the virus in March 2022, said the Ministry of Health and Population in a statement on Thursday.

The Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said in the statement that the governorate's hospitals are free from any patients infected with the virus, adding that all the PCR samples for suspected cases or travelers were tested negative over the past 15 days.
Abdel Ghaffar attributed the reason to the high vaccination rates and booster doses given to citizens. He added that medical teams across the governorate’s hospitals commit to their national duty to deliver the vaccine to all citizens.

Raji Tawadros, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Qena, confirmed all samples taken from 48 inpatients, including 15 cases in the ICU, were tested negative.

The number of those who received the first dose of the vaccine reached 1,354,634 citizens, while the number of recipients of the second dose reached 944,885, Tawadros said.

As for the booster jabs, the number of vaccinated people reached 59,958 citizens, he added, extending his thanks and appreciation to all the medical teams in the governorate for their tremendous efforts.

On April 6, 2022, the ministry declared the northern Egyptian governorate of Beheira free from coronavirus cases for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Beheira has been one of the Egyptian governorates with the highest coronavirus vaccination rates, the ministry said, quoting Hany Gemeia, deputy undersecretary of the ministry in Beheira.

The Health Ministry said on April 9  that the average of the daily new coronavirus cases stood at 400 during the past week, while seven deaths were registered.

In a statement, Abdel Ghaffar said the daily average of recoveries recorded 532, bringing the total number of recoveries to 442,182. Meanwhile, the total number of vaccinated people hit 32,997,251.

Also, the Cairo International Airport received a shipment of 1,501,000 Pfizer coronavirus vaccine shots coming from the United States. The shipment was delivered via the COVAX Facility in cooperation with the Vaccine Alliance GAVI, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

"The shipment comes as part of the state's plan to diversify and expand the availability of the anti-coronavirus vaccines to preserve the gains of the Egyptian state in facing the pandemic," the statement read.

Concerning the coronavirus vaccination campaign, the rates of daily vaccination during the holy month of Ramadan has come between 100,000 and 150,000 daily doses, the spokesman said.
