Egypt's Sisi promises 'all kinds of support' for victims of tourist bus crash, their families

CAIRO – 13 April 2022: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi extended his condolences to the families of the victims of an accident involving French and Belgian tourists on a highway in Aswan, southern Egypt Wednesday, saying Egypt will give the victims and their families all kinds of support.  

“I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased, praying to God almighty to bless the victims with his mercy and to inspire their families and relatives with patience and solace,” he said in a Facebook statement.

“I am closely following up on the accident of a tourist bus colliding with a truck in Aswan Governorate and instructed the concerned authorities to take all the needed measures, provide all aspects of medical attention and treatment for the victims of the tragic accident, and follow up on their condition,” he added.

Sisi also said he ordered that all kinds of support be given to the families of the victims. Ten people died in the accident, where a pickup truck collided with a tourist bus. The victims include one Belgian and four French tourists and five Egyptians.

The Egyptians killed are the two men in the pickup truck, the driver of the bus, his assistant, and a tourist guide. Fourteen tourists in the bus, which was heading to Abu Simbel city, were injured.

The prosecution is investigating the incident and spoke to the injured in Aswan University Hospital. The two vehicles and the bodies of the victims are being examined.

The injured suffered fractures, bruises, and superficial wounds. All victims were transferred from the location of the accident in 35 ambulances.
