CAIRO - 10 April 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative for the early detection and treatment of hearing impairment targets newborns for all children in Egypt, including non-Egyptians, said Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

The initiative aims at detecting hearing impairment among newborns, Abdel Ghaffar added in statements to "Good Morning Egypt" program aired on Channel one TV.

Early identification of hearing impairment before 5 years of age substantially improves the socio-linguistic and cognitive development of child, he further said.

In case of existence of any problem, a re-examination
will be held within a period between 3 to 4 weeks, he went on to say.

Earlier, the Health and Population Ministry announced that 2,854,764 newborns have been surveyed since the launch of the initiative.
