CAIRO – 8 April 2022: Taba International Airport received on Friday the first flight coming from Katowice Airport in Poland amid strict coronavirus measures after more than two years of hiatus.

The plane, operated by Smart Wings, arrived in Taba carrying 190 Polish passengers.

The plane was received by the traditional water salute and airport teams received the passengers with roses and souvenirs.

In mid-2020, Egypt has resumed international flights, few months after they were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

By leaps and bounds, Egypt could vaccinate all workers in the Red Sea resorts who are part of the tourism industry and also administered the first vaccine dose to tourism workers in the Upper Egyptian cities of Luxor and Aswan.

Egypt has continued to abide by strict measures. However, it has allowed hotels to run at full capacity.

Many inspection tours by officials such as the tourism and civil aviation ministers have included airports and tourist attractions to make sure that disinfection and preventive measures are adhered to.

Tourism is one of the most vital sources of Egypt’s national income as it accounts for around 12 percent of GDP.

Last year, Egyptian Minister of Tourism Khaled el-Anani met with a group of investors in Taba city to discuss problems facing them, and find mechanisms of stimulating domestic tourism in the city.

Anani met with a group of Taba investors, in the presence of Ghada Shalaby, Deputy Minister for Tourism Affairs, and Ahmed Al-Wasif, President of the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers.

This comes during his visit to Taba to attend the celebration organized by the South Sinai Governorate to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of Taba’s return to Egyptian lands.

This meeting came to listen to the problems facing these investors and their opinions and proposals to boost tourism development in the city, and discuss mechanisms to revitalize the internal tourism movement.

The meeting further discussed ways to return Taba to its previous status, as it was years ago.

The minister stressed that the state “spares no effort to promote the tourism sector, as it is one of the most important tributaries of the national economy.”

He explained that the political leadership and the government are removing all possible obstacles to push work in the tourism sector, and provide the necessary support to alleviate this important sector, especially since the private sector is the partner of success and the real locomotive for the advancement of this vital sector.

The minister also referred to the initiatives, decisions, procedures, exemptions, incentives and support granted by the state to support the tourism sector and its workers since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic crisis until now.

He further stressed that “Taba is a city that combines many different types of tourism, as it is a city with a distinct tourist site because of its picturesque beaches, warm nature and luxurious hotels,” and it also has Pharaoh's Island, which contains the ancient Citadel of Saladin.
