Congolese Vice PM in Egypt to discuss development projects, climate change

CAIRO – 29 March 2022: Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty and Vice Prime Minister of Congo Ève Bazaiba met in Cairo Tuesday as part of regular visits to strengthen ties.

Bazaiba, who is also the minister of environment and sustainable development, the Congolese climate change commissioner, and the charge d’affairs of the Congolese ambassador met Abdel Aty in the Congolese embassy.

They discussed the components of the protocol signed by the two countries, which includes several development projects in Congo such as a multi-purpose hydroelectric power stations, 12 solar-powered underground wells, and exchanging experiences in agriculture and irrigation.

They also discussed modern irrigation system on a plot of 1,000 hectares determined by Congo. In the first stage, the Egyptians will apply the system on five hectares and then the Congolese will apply it on the rest of the area under Egyptian supervision.

Capacity building is also an important component of cooperation, where Egypt provided eight training courses in different fields, four Congolese students were given post-graduate studies scholarships in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.

Abdel Aaty and Bazaiba inaugurated the Rain and Climate Change Prediction Center in Congo in July, which will play an important role in protecting citizens from climate disasters and sudden floods.
