CAIRO – 25 March 2022: Egypt would issue commemorative coins on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of refloating the "Ever Given" vessel, which ran aground in March 2021 and disrupted international navigation through the Suez Canal.

The Egyptian Mint Authority entrusted the task of issuing these commemorative coins.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) will hold, on Tuesday, a big celebration to mark the first anniversary of the authority’s success in refloating the Panama-flagged ship Ever Given, which had previously run aground last March in the southern entrance of the shipping channel.

Ever Given, a Japanese-owned 400-meter-long container ship, operating under Panama’s flag, remained stranded for six days and blocked the international navigation movement through the canal. on March 29, the authority successfully refloated the ship, which was allowed three months later to leave Egyptian waters after signing a settling agreement between the Japanese company and the Suez Canal Authority.
