CAIRO – 21 March 2022: A female Uber captain has received much sympathy on social media after being fired from the ride-hailing company for accompanying her three-year old son during work.

The captain, Azza, wrote a post on social media about a female client who reported her to Uber for feeling unsafe during the ride because of the boy who used to sit next to his mother.

Then, she appeared in a video on Cairo Live news website, detailing her circumstances.

Azza said she was divorced while pregnant and has since been struggling to find a job that accepts her as a pregnant woman and later as a mother. She also said no trusted person she knows is free to look after her son while she works in the afternoon and at night. She added that she is the only breadwinner and caregiver of her son.

Azza said in the video that many users contacted her to offer jobs, and that she is overwhelmed by the reactions.

Although reactions have mostly been supportive for Azza, there was a general understanding of Uber’s action, albeit less understanding of the client’s complaint.
