CAIRO – 20 March 2022: Alamein City on the North Coast will be a governorate soon, and it won’t just be a tourist city but will have other components as well, Minister of Housing Assem al-Gazzar said Saturday.

Gazzar said during a parliamentarian forum in Hurghada that Egyptians only lived on about seven percent of the entire country, but now the population occupy about 13 percent, thanks to major urban expansion in the past years.

Egypt’s projects of decent housing is “exclusive” to Egypt, as no one else in the world provides a furnished apartment to replace hazardous housing in slums for free or at a greatly reduced price, the minister said, adding that Egypt received the highest UN award in the field of social housing.

As an example, he said that the recipients of housing units at Maspero project will sign a contract that won’t allow them to sell their apartment because they were given it at a quarter of its value.

The budget of the Urban Communities as an economic entity has amounted to L.E.144 billion, reflecting the positive reactions of developers, who are now working around the clock in the New Administrative Capital despite their doubts at the beginning.
