CAIRO - 15 March 2022: Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the number of COVID-19 infections has decreased in Egypt.

During a phone call with "El Mehwar" channel on Monday, the spokesman said the Health Ministry is making great efforts to achieve "herd immunity" by vaccinating nearly 70% of the citizens.

He further noted that people under the age of 65 should receive a booster dose at least six months after their second dose.

Minister of Higher Education and acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has directed to issue weekly, instead of daily, reports on the number of Covid-19 infection cases and deaths.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the Covid-19 report is set to be issued weekly on Saturdays.

This decision was attributed to the decline in infection cases and deaths for two straight weeks, Abdel Ghaffar said, urging citizens to continue adopting precautionary measures.

Life will go back to normal after vaccinating 70 percent of the Egyptian population; 40 percent have been jabbed thus far, according to the Ministry of Health on March 7.

Hossam Hosny, head of the Anti-Coronavirus Scientific Committee, said on Sunday the vaccination reduces the symptoms and contagiousness.

Meanwhile, the ministry has begun offering the booster dose to the medical staff, those with chronic diseases, senior citizens, and vaccinated people who has their last jab over six months earlier.

The recovery rates at the quarantine hospitals has increased to its first high of 85.7 percent, the ministry said on Saturday.
