CAIRO – 14 March 2022: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has received 2,000 reports in a “complex” situation where there are Egyptians and Arabs in Ukraine and Ukrainians in Egypt, the executive director of the ERC told Min Masr show on Sunday.

There is a crisis committee in the Cabinet that deals with the situation, and the ERC has international protection, Dr. Ramy al-Nazer said.

The first relief team was dispatched to Romania for a clear mission, that is to arrive at the borders with Ukraine in cooperation with the Romanian authorities and help stranded Egyptians and Arabs, he added.

Many of the Egyptian community in Ukraine are students. Some 80 percent of them have been evacuated, Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram said on Saturday.

Around 2,179 of those students have applied to join Egyptian universities, but a small number chose to remain in Ukraine, she added.
