CAIRO – 3 March 2022: The Egyptian and French navies carried out two naval exercises in the Red Sea, in light of raising the level of training and exchange experiences between the two navies, said the Egyptian Ministry of Defense in a statement on Thursday.
 
The Egyptian frigate (Segm Abu Qir), the French helicopter carrier MISTRAL and the French FREMM-class frigate COURBET carried out many different training activities including amphibious operation on one of the islands, training on shore survey and reconnaissance operations, training on maritime interception procedures, inspection, and protection of the landing ship while carrying out its missions.

The Egyptian minesweeper (Navarin) and the French minesweeper (ORION) conducted training in research, discovery and identification and destroying sea mines, the statement said.
 
Egypt ranked first among the most powerful armed forces in the Middle East on the list of PowerIndex (PwrIndx)’s 2022 review.

The index reviews the countries in terms of 50 individual factors, with certain categories “ranging from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography.”
 
Egypt is followed by Turkey and Iran, which come in the second and third positions in the Middle East, respectively, the index says, adding that Egypt is ranked number 12 out of 140 countries, globally. 
 
Last year, the annual review of Global Firepower ranked Egypt's military strength 13th globally for the year 2021 out of 139 "countries considered" compared to ninth out of 138 states in 2020.
