CAIRO - 26 February 2022: Minister of State of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram held a meeting with representatives of the Egyptian community in Ukraine, which included several Egyptian students in different Ukrainian cities.

The meeting aimed to follow up on latest developments and get acquainted with their conditions over the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said it communicated with the ministries concerned in a move meant to meet needs of the community and to ensure their safety in the first place.

The minister also urged not to trust any baseless news or rumors and to depend only on official statements issued by the Egyptian Embassy in Kyiv.

Makram also directed nationals not to leave for eastern and southern districts in Ukraine, where there are clashes between Ukrainian and Russian troops, while nationals who can head for Romania or Poland should contact the Egyptian Embassy in Kyiv at first.

The Emigration Ministry urged on Friday Egyptian nationals in Ukraine, especially students, to abide by instructions issued by the Egyptian Embassy in Kiev and to contact the embassy in case of any emergency.

On its Facebook page, the ministry posted the numbers of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

For Egyptians living in central and southern Ukraine, the ministry advised them to stay at home until situation is stabilized, asking Egyptians who are now standing at the Ukrainian-Romanian borders to contact the embassy in Poland through the number 0087383511584 if they face any problem.

It said Egyptians in Ukraine's Odesa city should head for Romania through the Romanian borders point at Isaccea city to return home.

The alerts come following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Thursday and in light of the imposition of martial law in Ukraine and the closure of airspace, as well as trains.
