Prominent Palestinian official briefs Egyptian FM on developments

CAIRO – 24 February 2022: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Wednesday Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Front, and Member of the Central Committee of Fath Movement Azam al-Ahmed in the ministry's headquarters in Cairo.

 

The Palestinian official briefed the Egyptian minister on the developments and updates on the Palestinian scene, expressing appreciation for the honest efforts of Egypt, and its pursuit to support the Palestinian Cause and Palestinian people against various challenges.

On his side, Minister Shokry reiterated Egypt's fixed stance on backing the Palestinian people, its rights, and its legitimate aspiration to establish the independent Palestinian state in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions.

 

The minister also affirmed that Egypt continues its endeavors and communications with all concerned parties in order to create a climate suitable for the revival of negotiations between both Palestinian and Israeli sides as soon as possible.

 

The chief of Egyptian diplomacy equally underscored Egypt's continuous efforts to fulfill developmental needs across all Palestinian territories, and its support to all steps aimed at consolidating the political, economic, and developmental statuses in there.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on February 17 Israeli attempts aimed at the displacement of Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood lying Eastern Jerusalem, and at altering the demographic identity of that section of the city.

 

The ministry's spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, noted in a statement that such practices represent a violation to international legitimacy resolutions, and international law.

 

The statement indicated that Egypt follows up with deep concern the violent events experienced by Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, where Palestinian citizens are subject to provocative practices and violations that would trigger tensions Eastern Jerusalem. 

 

Ambassador Hafez stipulated the necessity of providing security to the Palestinian people, and halting the demolition of houses as well as the confiscation of lands in both the West Bank and Eastern Jerusalem. The diplomat further reiterated that the persistence of such unilateral acts would undermine chances to achieve the two-state solution, and peace aspired in the region.
