Egypt's Transport Ministry unveils partnerships with Austrian locomotive companies

CAIRO – 23 February 2022: Minister of Transportation Kamel al-Wazir received Tuesday the representatives of nine Austrian locomotive companies.

 

During the meeting, the minister got briefed by Plasser & Theurer officials on the status of supplying rail track maintenance machines. The minister also examined chances of establishing a maintenance center jointly with the company to carry out maintenance for the supplied machines.   

 

Similarly, the transportation minister discussed the offer presented by voestapline to partner up in launching a production line of railroad keys at Abbassiyah Workshops capitalizing on the modern technology the Austrian firm possesses.

 

Wazir indicated the ministry's approval of the offer, stressing that the company shall also supervise the existing production line, as all railroad keys used by the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) would be manufactured in Egypt in partnership with voestapline.

 

The offers by the other companies included upgrading railroad tracks, supplying machines that inspect the tracks and mobile units, and conducting feasibility studies.
