CAIRO - 21 February 2022: The Health Ministry said Sunday night that 2,009 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 469,457.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 58 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 23,752.

As many as 2,121 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 400,882 so far, the spokesman said. 

Egypt and China handed over Sunday 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the Palestinian National Authority, announced the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Dedicated to the Gaza Strip, Egypt and China jointly donated the vaccines, which are produced by the two countries, added the ministry in a statement.

The handover ceremony was held at the premises of VACSERA in the presence of Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar along with Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Alaa Moussa, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and Palestinian consul general Nedaa el Bargouthi, according to the statement.

The move came as part of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and China to take concrete measures to help the Palestinians fight against COVID-19, it added.
