CAIRO - 18 February 2022:  Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called upon partner countries and international financial institutions and organizations to enhance efforts exerted in the medical field to support the African countries and provide the necessary sustainable funding to meet their health needs.

President Sisi’s call was stated in his speech at the WHO Session on Vaccine Technology and Health Systems, on the sidelines of the EU-AU summit in Brussels.

“I gladly express my appreciation for Egypt being selected to be among the countries of the African continent that will receive the support to obtain the mRNA technology used in the manufacturing of vaccines and other important medical drugs to confront many incurable diseases,” President Sisi said.

“Our presence here today is a true reflection of what international partnership and solidarity in the health field can achieve. This takes place by finding effective means to face global challenges if the necessary political will is available and a heightened sense of our common destiny prevails. This happened as a result of the efforts made by France and South Africa over the period prior to the crystallization of a common African-European vision to support the African continent in obtaining the medical technology necessary for the production of vaccines,” he added.

President Sisi lauded the effort made by the World Health Organization to attain this achievement, which will contribute to enabling our African countries to overcome the negative health, economic, and social effects of the pandemic, also within the framework of protecting the whole world from its effects.

“This step is dedicated to what Egypt is already doing, in terms of preparing for the production of vaccines, whether for local use or their availability to sister African countries, based on the medical and manufacturing infrastructure in which Egypt has invested over the past years. This infrastructure is able to absorb this technology and employ it in an appropriate manner to ensure the continued availability of vaccines in Egypt and also to support African countries in their efforts to provide vaccines to their citizens,” President Sisi said.

Also, President Sisi confirmed that the support that the African countries will receive is a step on the path towards the comprehensive partnership in the health field.
