CAIRO – 17 February 2022: Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Wednesday with AstraZeneca regional director for the Middle East and Africa, Belin Inciso, and discussed cooperation in the transfer of vaccine manufacturing technology.  

 

A number of Astrazeneca company officials attended the meeting to discuss enhancing aspects of cooperation in the health sector.

 

The meeting discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between “Vacsera” and “AstraZeneca” in the field of transferring technology for manufacturing various types of vaccines.

 

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the acting minister discussed with AstraZeneca officials the research and studies that the company is conducting in the field of developing the anti-Coronavirus vaccine and its new variants,

 

The minister also praised the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and AstraZeneca in providing the Corona vaccine over the past period, as well as cooperation in the implementation of public health initiatives.

 

Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting also discussed a proposal for cooperation between the Ministry of Health and AstraZeneca in the framework of the “Partnership for a Resilient Health System” initiative, which is being implemented in cooperation with the London School of Economics and the World Economic Forum.

 

The initiative aims to sustain the health system and enhance its resilience, and to provide actionable policy recommendations.

The minister stressed the importance of this partnership, which contributes to strengthening the health system's capacity for sustainability, protection from crises and rapid response to them, in the context of supporting the realization of the "Egypt 2030" vision, the spokesperson said.
