Egypt reports 2,101 new coronavirus cases, 54 fatalities on Wednesday

CAIRO - 15 February 2022: The Health Ministry said that 2,101 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 461,299.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 54 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 23,519.

As many as 2,765 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 393,254 so far, the spokesman said.

The ministry has explained to people the steps to follow if they contract coronavirus.

- If you feel the usual symptoms of coronavirus, you should go to the hospital immediately, specifically the chest diseases clinic or the emergency department in a hospital affiliated with the Health Ministry.

*Note: The symptoms include difficulty breathing, a decrease in the percentage of oxygen in the blood below 92%, difficulty breathing, altered consciousness, and continuous fever, the ministry says.

- When contracting coronavirus, you should self-isolate for 5 to 7 days.

- Send an SMS to 1440, the ministry’s hotline for house quarantine cases.

- Take a good amount of rest and sleep.

- You should drink plenty of fluids.

- Take medicines that reduce temperature and painkillers when necessary.

Note: Recovery from coronavirus happens when symptoms disappear, the ministry says. However, people are able to transmit the infection to others only within 5 to 7 days, provided that the high temperature disappears even if the cough and cold persist.
