CAIRO – 21 January 2022: Egypt’s Public Prosecution disclosed on Thursday the circumstances of the murder of a former sports champion in northern Egypt’s Kafr El-Sheikh.

In a statement, the prosecution said it ordered the detention of a man over killing Rawan El-Husseini in the northern governorate for four days pending investigation.

The prosecution was briefed by the police of Husseini’s death in the hospital on 17 January with injuries on her body and neck.

Moving to the scene, the prosecution examined the body and inspected the roof of the building where she was found lying on the floor.

The prosecution seized the surveillance cameras surrounding the place.

The victim’s relatives said they received a phone call from an unknown person from her phone on the day of her death claiming that Husseini was on the roof of a building with another person.

The relatives said they called him again after they figured out that they were misled so he told them about the girl’s actual place.

Reaching to her place, they found her lying to the flood with a piece of cloth around her neck. They tried to save her but to no avail, they said.

The accused man told the prosecution he followed the girl, forced her up to the roof of a building and stole her gold earrings and mobile phone.

He then grabbed her from hijab, which fell down to her neck while she is trying to flee, causing her to fall to the ground. He fled the scene.

The prosecution said the investigations are underway, affirming that the accused man has reenacted the crime.
