Egypt records 1,232 new COVID cases, 31 deaths

CAIRO - 18 January 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that 1,100 people recovered from the Coronavirus, and were discharged from hospitals, after receiving the necessary medical care in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization, bringing the total of those recovering from the virus to 334,629 to date.
 
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that 1,232 new infection cases were recorded, as part of the necessary surveillance, investigation and examination procedures conducted by the ministry in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization, recording 31 new death cases.
 
He stressed that, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization issued on May 27, 2020, the disappearance of symptoms for a period of 10 days from infection is an indicator of the patient's recovery from the Corona virus.
 
Abdel Ghaffar indicated that the total number that was registered in Egypt with the new Corona virus since the outbreak of the virus and until Monday, reached 401,308, including 334,629 cases that have been cured, and 22,179 deaths.
 
Egypt received 3 million doses of Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine, provided by the US, through COVAX in cooperation with GAVI Alliance (formerly the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation), said Egyptian Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar in a statement on Sunday.
 
This comes within Egypt’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of anti-Coronavirus vaccines, in order to preserve the state's gains in addressing the pandemic.
 
The Ministry of Health and Population continues to raise its preparations in all governorates of the Republic, follow up on the situation first-hand regarding the “emerging corona virus”, and take all necessary preventive measures against any viruses or infectious diseases, and the ministry has allocated a number of means of communication to receive citizens’ inquiries about the emerging corona virus and infectious diseases. Including the hotline “105”, “15335” and the WhatsApp number “01553105105”, in addition to the “Health Egypt” application available on phones.
