CAIRO - 17 January 2022: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, in light of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries, said Egyptian Foreign Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.

The ministers tackled ways of boosting bilateral relations between politically, economically and commercially, Hafez added.

They also exchanged views on regional issues and other the African affairs and the preparation for an upcoming African summit, Hafez said, adding that the both ministers affirmed the importance of maintaining issues of mutual concerns to serve both countries’ interests.

The phone call coincides with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra’s visit to Egypt, on Monday. Lamamra met with President Sisi, sending him a message from President Tebboune affirming that Algeria is looking forward to maintain further coordination and consultation with Sisi during the coming period in the face of the several challenges facing the region and the Arab nation.

The relations between Morocco and Algeria deeply strained in November 2021 when three Algerian truck drivers were killed in  Western Sahara, near borders with Mauritania. Morocco accuses Algeria of backing Polisario Front against the Kingdom.
